Laser Hair Removal

Laser therapy is a safe, effective, and commonly used treatment, providing optimal results in permanent hair removal. The Candela GentleLase system safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are usually completed in under ten minutes; legs, backs, and larger areas can take longer.

Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being targeted, while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. Candela lasers feature a patented skin-cooling device for even greater patient comfort and safety-and better results.

We use the Candela GentleLASE System, a revolutionary long-pulse high energy alexandrite laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.

The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device™ where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin cooling the upper layers and providing patients with increased comfort. The GentleLASE selectivity helps protect the skin, while effectively treating the unwanted hair.

Area to be treated must be clean and shaven before treatment.

Area to be treated must be free of lotions, creams, deodorant, makeup, etc. Plucking or waxing should not be performed within 4-6 weeks of treatment or between laser treatments.

Depending on the amount of hair treated, the procedure varies from patient to patient. Generally, the treatment will include:

Wearing safety eyewear to protect the technician and clients eyes from the laser light during the procedure.

A small hand-piece will be used that touches the skin to deliver the laser light. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse.

A test spot or area can be done prior to full treatment to see how skin reacts.

Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device.

The procedure can take as little as ten minutes or up to an hour, depending on the area treated.

It is completely normal for your treated skin to appear pink or red within 30 minutes of treatment; this may last from a few hours to several days and is relieved with the application of ice or cooling gels. On very rare occasions, minor blistering or scabbing may occur and this reaction is also normal for some individuals. If they do occur, contact SouthWest Aesthetic Services for instructions.

It is also completely normal for hair to continue to grow after your laser hair removal treatment. Some of these hairs are being expelled from the newly disabled treated follicles, and some are from dormant follicles entering their active phase after the laser hair removal treatment. This normal cyclical nature of hair growth is why the full Hair Removal Protocol consists of a normally recommended six to eight laser hair removal treatments per area, scheduled four to eight weeks apart.

GENERAL LASER HAIR REMOVAL INFORMATION/FAQ’S

Laser Hair Removal is a faster, gentler way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. Laser Hair Removal applies precisely controlled pulses of energy (electrical and light, with cooling), reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

Each pulse, which lasts less than a second, produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch.

At Tulsa Skin Center we customize your laser hair removal treatment to exactly match your hair and skin color and type. Light hair, such as, blonde and white does not respond as well to the laser because it is difficult for the laser to pinpoint the follicle.

We will provide a free consultation with you to determine if this is a procedure that you will benefit from. If you have any questions concerning the effectiveness of the procedure with your specific hair color and skin type please feel free to contact us for a customized consultation.

Most people experience no side effects at all, though few exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin and in rare cases scabbing can occur. If you are feeling any discomfort after the procedure, we advise clients to use ice or cooling gels.

You can return to your regular activities immediately after laser hair removal treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time.

Our laser hair removal technology destroys hairs that are in the active growth phase, so repeat treatments will be needed to target hair that was not affected at the time of previous laser hair removal treatments. Normally six to eight laser hair removal treatments are recommended to get the optimum results.

Crystal-free microdermabrasion with the Diamondtome Skin Rejuvenation System

What is Skin Resurfacing?

Skin Resurfacing can reduce the effects of aging on our skin. Years of sun exposure and the aging process take their toll on the skin, creating lines, wrinkles, and changes in texture and color. Not only is the face a likely victim of these changes, but the neck, chest, cleavage, arms and hands may be affected as well.

Skin Resurfacing is a treatment that improves wrinkles, skin texture and color by removing the topmost layer of skin leaving it more supple and vibrant. Skin Resurfacing also stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance. Skin Resurfacing treatments are normally administered by a trained clinician, nurse, aesthetician, or physician. A wonderful alternative or compliment to chemical peels, the DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing treatment is non-invasive, pain-free and requires no down time after treatment.

Leading plastic surgeons and dermatologist regard the DiamondTome™ system as being more gentle and affective than other exfoliating systems, even at higher settings. The length of the treatment and number of treatments vary depending on skin type and condition. Results are gradual but highly effective. Most people experience softer, smoother skin after their first treatment.

Skin Rejuvenation with the Eclipse Micropen

Revitalize Your Skin

Automated Micro-Needling also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s texture, tone and color. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with softer wrinkles. Eclipse MicroPen™ also creates micro channels which allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing their effects in deeper layers of the skin.

What Are The Benefits?

The benefits of micro-needling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. Eclipse MicroPen™ also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin.

What Areas Of The Body Can I Treat?

Eclipse MicroPen™ can be used on all parts of the body; Face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back.

How Is The Procedure Done?

A sterile needle-tip containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the Eclipse MicroPen™. Your skincare professional will apply a thin layer of topical gel to your skin and select the appropriate setting based on your unique needs. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.

What Does It Feel Like?

The feeling associated with the Eclipse MicroPen™ is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating needle tip reduces discomfort while the applied hydrating gel also makes the treatment more tolerable.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

The procedure takes 15-30 minutes depending on the size of the area treated.

What Is The Downtime?

Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the Eclipse MicroPen™ setting used and the number of overlapping passes your skincare professional performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Some patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.

When Will I See The Results?

Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Some patients only require a single treatment, once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 2-3 treatments spaced about 6-8 weeks apart.

For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks or acne scars it is recommended to receive 6-8 sessions at 6 week intervals.

Brown Spot Removal (Pigmented Lesions) & Tattoo Removal

What is brown spot removal?

Pigmented lesions include sun spots, nevus of ota, freckles, and many brown-colored birthmarks. The Palomar Q-Yag 5 emits a highly focused beam of intense laser light. This light passes harmlessly through the outer layer of the skin and is absorbed primarily by the tattoo ink or the excess pigment within the lesion. As the light is absorbed, it is converted to heat.

This all happens within a tiny fraction of a second, and the sudden rise in temperature within the treatment area fractures the pigment or ink into tiny particles. White blood cells then carry away these particles to be naturally eliminated by the body. This process is not painful for most people, but all pain thresholds are different and some clients may choose to use a topical numbing cream prescribed by their doctor. The procedure takes less than 5 minutes for small areas, but can last as long as 10-20 minutes for multiple areas or very large tattoos. The procedure will cause the skin to become bruised and the area, will more than likely, scab as well. This is how the skin regenerates after the procedure.

The scabbing usually lasts 5-10 days and client will be instructed to use ice if any pain occurs, as well as, apply an ointment like Aquaphor every day to keep the area moisturized. This helps the healing process. Also, we recommend no sun exposure without sunscreen until the area heals. Typically, only one to two treatments are necessary for pigmented lesions and tattoo removal will, most likely, need several treatments.

What type of equipment do we use?

Palomar Q-Yag5 Laser-large for pigmented lesions & tattoo Removal and Candela Gentlelase for pigmented lesions.

Syneron IPL FotoFacial with RF Skin Rejuvination

Restore a natural youthful beauty to your skin with no downtime. The power of elos, safety, comfort, results.

Over time, the aging process and the effects of the sun, wind and pollutants in the air can wreak havoc on our skin. Unfortunately, our highly competitive society places a premium on a youthful look.

The Elos Photofacial uses the AURORA/ system developed by SYNERON. It combines optical energy with radio frequency (RF) energy to deliver satisfying, lasting results. Now, patients can enjoy the results they desire regardless of their skin type.

Full face, neck, hands or body may be treated using ELOS™. These gentle, no-downtime treatments are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face, neck or body. The Elos Photofacial procedure has increased in popularity and recognition to the point where it is now one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in North America. The procedure has been featured in Allure, Cosmopolitan, In Style, Vogue, USA today and numerous national and regional Television shows such as Oprah. Many Hollywood stars and TV personalities rave about the Elos Photofacial and credit this procedure for the renewed health and vitality in their skin. The Elos Photofacial is the next generation in high-tech skin enhancement.

How does Elos work?

ELOS™ (electro-optical synergy) combines the synergy of bipolar radiofrequency and light energies to treat superficial and benign vascular and pigmented lesions like Rosacea, spider veins, skin imperfections by sun damage, red and brown spots. It treats fine wrinkles and improves skin texture irregularities, laxity and smoothness.

How does the Elos differ from other Photorejuvenation procedures?

Unlike other lasers, with a Elos Photofacial, the visible light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the skin’s surface, while the RF energy stimulates the production of collagen (which supports the skin) from within. In marrying Intense Pulsed Light and RadioFrequency energy into one treatment, Elos Photofacial treatments offer the very latest and most effective high-tech, non-invasive form of non-invasive skin enhancement. Many other lasers and devices, such as N-lite®, Cooltouch®, SmoothBeam®, V-Beam®, IPL photorejuvenation or Intense Pulsed Light systems with the Quantum® or Vasculight®, offer mild rejuvenation.

With these basic Photorejuvenation procedures you may notice a degree of improvement in the appearance of some aspects of your skin, particularly an improvement in vascular and melanin based discolorations. However, by combining RadioFrequency and Intense Pulsed Light into one Elos Photofacial treatment, you will achieve the optimal degree of enhancement to all components of your skin. By adding the RadioFrequency to the Intense Pulsed light, the Elos Photofacial procedure can now boast excellent, no downtime wrinkle improvements together with the significant improvement in redness, rosacea, pinkness, spider veins, pores and texture.

How does the Elos work to improve the appearance of the skin?

Each pulse of the Elos Photofacial RF device, the Aurora, sends two types of energy into your skin, Intense Pulsed Visible Light and RadioFrequency energy, that act synergistically to enhance the skin. Energy is given up to brown spots, blood vessels, and redness to gradually and gently lessen or eliminate these blemishes. The RadioFrequency energy also produces significant amounts of collagen, elastin and ground substances in the dermis, the thick undercarpet of the skin, resulting in a noticeable and significant smoothing of fine to moderate wrinkles and textural irregularities of the skin.

Is it safe?

Elos is the safest technology available with high patient comfort. Most people experience no side effects at all, though a few exhibits some short term local redness. Treatment requires no patient downtime and you can return to work immediately after.
What conditions can be treated with Elos?

Fine lines, rosacea, flushing, pore size, ruddy complexion, broken capillaries and spider veins, hyperpigmentation, melasma, freckles, age and sun spots, a pregnancy mask, as well as non-pitted acne scars can all be diminished in a softer, more gentle way with a Elos Photofacial. All patients see positive results from a Elos Photofacial without any of the potential side effects seen with other laser systems.

How is the Elos treatment performed?

It is a simple, office based treatment. First, the area to be treated is cleansed. The patient is covered with a thin layer of cooling gel and the entire face, chest, hands or arms are treated with a gentle pulse of light and RadioFrequency energy. When placed against the skin you will feel the cold tip. When the pulse of light and low energy radio frequency is administered there is a momentary sensation that is easily tolerated. Each treatment takes about 30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Most patients require about 5 Fotofacial treatments to see the desired results and they are performed every 4 weeks. Some patients will benefit from additional treatments.

What About Results?

All patients notice a consistent improvement in the appearance of their skin. The degree of improvement is gradual and persistent over the 15-18 week program and 5-6 Elos Photofacial treatments. The noticeable and significant changes that have been reported include: Improvement in pink and brown discoloration, spider veins, pink and brown blemishes, sundamage, age spots, pore size, acne scarring and wrinkles. Since the aging process continues after your treatments, maintenance treatments may prevent the return of your symptoms.

1. Flushing, redness, ruddy complexion, broken capillaries and spider veins of the face. All these “Pink” vascular based conditions of the skin improve, on average, between 50-75% percent with Elos Photofacial treatments.

2. Sun spot, age spots, hyperpigmentation, melasma, cholasma, mask of Pregnancy, multiple freckles. All these “Brown”, melanin based conditions of the skin improve, on average, 50-75% with FotoFacial RF™ treatments.

3. Chronic sundamage and photoaging improve, on average, 50-75% with Elos Photofacial treatments.

4. Sun Damage and aging signs of the hands, neck (Poikiloderma) and Chest skin can be improved by 50-75% percent with Elos Photofacial treatments (Elos Photofacial for the skin of the body)

5. Wrinkles and skin laxity. Unlike other more basic forms of Photorejuvenation, the Elos Photofacial, with its synergy of simultaneous Intense Pulsed Light and powerful RadioFrequency energy produces industry leading non-ablative wrinkle and skin laxity improvements of up to 70% without downtime; a claim that no other device or procedure has been able to boast.

How long will the Skin enhancement effects of the Elos last?

At the completion of the Elos Photofacial program the skin will have achieved a noticeable and consistent degree of improvement that over 90% of patients are very happy with. Occasionally, some patients desire an even greater degree of improvement and these patients will sign up for additional procedures Most Elos Photofacial patients will just desire to maintain the nice skin enhancements they achieved from the program and, for these satisfied patients, a single maintenance Elos Photofacial treatment is recommended every 4 months to keep the skin looking vital, even, smooth and youthful.

Following your treatment:

Immediately after your treatment the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities. Dark spots and small blood vessels may seem a little more noticeable, but they will begin to fade after several days. Your physician may recommend that you use a specially-formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type after your Elos Photofacial treatments. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.
